Professor Raphael Viscarra Rossel is a soil scientist specialising in soil-landscape modelling, sensing and soil carbon science. He has a consistent track record of impactful research and successful project delivery. The outputs from his research are in use by government, industry, and research. He leads the Soil & Landscape Science Group at Curtin University. The SLSG conduct theoretical, methodological, and applied research to improve understanding of soil processes and the drivers of soil and landscape variability at different spatial and temporal scales. Their work aims to understand and predict how soil functions respond to environmental and anthropogenic change, emphasising carbon sequestration, the preservation of biodiversity, nutrient cycling and food production.
Professor Viscarra Rossel will lead the Biodiverse Soil Carbon sub-theme of the Restoration Science Research Theme.
