Dr. Michael Just

Research Fellow

Michael is a plant biologist with expertise in seed dormancy, germination physiology, and restoration ecology. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Curtin University, where he conducted research on intractable seed dormancy and its impact on biodiversity in Southwest Australia.

Prior to his current role as a Research Fellow, he worked as a Research Officer at Curtin University, coordinating and delivering research outcomes relating to the seed biology of a range of species across Western Australia, and as a Research Assistant at Edith Cowan University, where he led field trips to conduct ongoing monitoring of a Terrestrial Ecosystems Research Network site.

In his current role, Michael is investigating restoration solutions in some of southwest Australia’s most threatened ecological communities, working to develop effective conservation and restoration strategies for native plant species. His work involves conducting research on the ecology and biology of various plant species and communities, designing, and implementing restoration plans, and collaborating with other researchers, government agencies, and industry partners.

Michael’s extensive experience in coordinating and delivering research outcomes, engaging with industry partners, and conducting large-scale fieldwork and experimentation make him a valuable asset in the field of plant biology and restoration ecology. He is known for his strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, as well as his passion for conservation and restoration of threatened plant species in Australia.
