Post-Doctoral Researchers

Alexandre Pedrinho

Post Doc Fellow - Carbon

Alexandre is a Research Fellow in the Restoration theme at the ARC Centre for Healing Country, Murdoch University. He specializes in soil science and microbial ecology, with a focus on how soil microbial communities contribute to ecosystem resilience and function.

His research has extensively explored the impacts of land-use changes on soil microbial diversity and ecosystem processes, particularly in the Amazon. His previous work examined how land management practices influence microbial communities, nutrient cycling, and greenhouse gas emissions.

As part of Healing Country, Alexandre is investigating the potential of biochar amendments to restore degraded soils and enhance plant establishment. His research aims to determine whether biochar can improve soil health, increase microbial diversity, and support the survival of woody and herbaceous species under drought conditions. His work integrates microbial ecology into land rehabilitation strategies, recognizing the vital role of soil microbial biodiversity in ecosystem restoration and promoting more sustainable, resilient restoration outcomes.
